I had a green sofa growing up so this is mostly nostalgic for me. Talk about fruitful lounging!

I don't remember where it was that I first came across the hotel establishment Joie de Vivre but I read recently that next March, it would be making its debut in New York. Naturally, I went straight for the pictures. Interior decor is a passion of mine so seeing what Wimberly Interiors did with 50 Bowery has me planning a trip to NYC in the new year, and I can barely wait. I took the liberty of browsing their other locations and oh what joy I found. {click any image to link to source}
This time last year, when I first heard about the magnificent future city, I was jumping out of my seat. I was enthralled by the design and fascinated with all the details of its construction as a true civil engineer should. I decided to check on its progress since the groundbreaking in February 2013. Alas! my enchantment was replaced with ambivalence and that, with outrage. I asked myself why my country is spending $6billion on a new city when we have cities that are barely functioning. Our main international airport, Murtala Muhammed International, has most travelers counting down every excruciating second until they board their planes and bid Nigeria farewell. Though glorious, the Eko Atlantic City or EAC will very likely cause a greater divide between the mainland and the island in Lagos. On the one hand, it helps the rich get richer while neglecting communities across the Makoko lagoon. On the other hand, its millions of square meters will see an increase in employment but who is really getting employed? With the minimum wage at N18,000 and 3 bedroom apartments at EAC priced at $200 million you can understand why I no longer have warm, fuzzy feelings towards this project.
What do you think about this project?
Etsy is the best place online to shop for one-of-a-kind handmade and vintage items from people all over the world. It's like experiencing another country right from your home. It's almost magical and people make serious money too (read this article). I joined Etsy about 4 years ago when I was looking for unique decorations for my furnished off-campus housing. I bought a world map decal that was meant to be perfect for rentals as it peels off easily but someone lied. While I was installing it, I applied a rough section and tried laying it again to smooth it out but that was the wrong move. I knew immediately that I wasn't getting the full security deposit refund. As you can imagine, I did not return to Etsy until two years later when I wanted to dabble in the art of jewelry making (watch this video). When that didn't work out, I took another break from Etsy returning only to shop for wedding favors for my sister's ceremony. By this time, I knew how much I was charged for the paint damage three years ago. The wedding favors were fantastic by the way, even though we forgot to distribute them at the actual event. Hey, more lip balm for me. To cut the story short, I frequent the site now for these five things: unique home decor, fancy craft supplies, quirky party favors, statement jewelry and thoughtful beauty gift sets. Interestingly, Macy's opened an Etsy pop-up shop in it's Herald Square flagship in New York where products will be rotated every few months to keep your unique (see article here). As I used to say after every of my debates as a kid: I hope I have been able to convince and not confuse you as to why these shops are worth the visit. Let me know if there are any shops you think I should visit. I'd love to add to my collection. Thanks!
